Morning (NASDAQ: TUES) is a discount gift and home accessory
chain based in Dallas, Texas. Founded in 1974, the chain
is known for its deep discounts on gifts and accessories
seen in more upscale department stores. As of March 2008,
the company operates 821 stores across the United States
in 47 states, most of which are in secondary locations of
major suburban markets, such as strip malls and warehouse
districts.
Tuesday Morning is a rarity among retailers in that its
sales are structured around about 10 "events"
a year. The stores are open about 330 days out of the year,
and now, just close for the first two weeks of January and
July, typically slow months for retail. The chain derives
its name from the day on which its events official start,
and open their doors early that Tuesday morning, generally
the first Tuesday of the month.
The chain traditionally has relied on direct marketing,
(including mail and the eTreasures e-mail list), but also
advertises in newspapers and on television with spots featuring
veteran actress Lauren Bacall. Lauren Bacall retired as
Tuesday Morning's spokesperson and was replaced by Morgan
Fairchild. |
